Family Mediation Centre Staffordshire is very pleased to be able to offer mediation from their very own offices at The Dudson Centre, Hope Street, Hanley. Although we have worked from The Dudson Centre for many years we have always used Relate offices and sadly they have had to close their doors in recent months.
In order to continue to support Hanley and their community and all the surrounding areas we decided to take the plunge and open our very own mediation suite. We still deal with all the administration from Stafford which is our head office but we will see clients over at The Dudson Centre. For arranging appointments, please call 01785 747322.
The benefits of having our own suite is that we can offer more flexibility to clients regarding times and dates for their appointments and are now not so restricted.
After receiving a number of enquiries from the Walsall area in need of family mediation, we decided to take a trip over to Walsall to investigate whether anyone would be pleased to house our mediators. We try our very best to see people as close to their home town as possible so they do not have far to travel to access our service. We really enjoyed meeting all the friendly staff at Walsall CAB who were delighted to be able to offer such a worthwhile service with the CAB Building on Lichfield Street. We have already booked two dates in August to start meeting with clients so please do contact us if you want further information or would like to book an appointment. We can offer both legal aid separate assessment meetings and mediations from Walsall CAB.
With government cuts affecting nearly every aspect of public money we were delighted to receive the news that the government will continue to support legal aid for mediation and they have extended our legal aid contract to March 2018. This therefore means that we can continue to help and support families on low incomes or passporting benefits who have found themselves in a difficult position where they cannot afford solicitors fees but need to resolve issues with their ex-partner. Finally the word is getting out there that legal aid is still available for mediation.
It is very rare we are asked by a client if the mediator is accredited. This question should not be rare but a common one, you wouldn’t get a gas boiler fitted by someone that is an certified gas engineer. We strongly feel the same should apply to family mediators. At Family Mediation Centre Staffordshire we are happy to announce that every single one of our mediators is fully accredited. The Court application forms should be completed with the mediators accreditation number next to their signature, if this is not shown then the Court may not accept your application. It is important you check that the mediator you are seeing or the mediation service you speak to have accredited mediators.
After the sad death or Robin Ap Cynan of Lupus and SARN mediation we have been helping the people of Wolverhampton to easily access mediation. Our mediators work from the Relate office at Newhampton Road East near the Molineux Stadium and travel to the Black Country once or twice a week to meet with clients to assess whether family mediation might help. We can offer legal aid for anyone who qualifies, people often think that legal aid isn’t available anymore but legal aid has always been available for mediation. It can be quite frustrating to hear that clients especially those on income support, JSA or ESA have not been informed that they will passport through to get legal aid (free mediation paid for by the government).
We hope to continue to grow in this area and are glad to be working with some many organisations to offer this vital resource to couples and families in difficulty.
We are very pleased to be supporting Circus Star again this year, who put on a Circus show for special needs children who can attend with their carers.
Congratulations to all of us at Family Mediation Centre Staffordshire, today we are celebrating our third year anniversary, opening for business three years to the day and still going from strength to strength. We are excited to see what our fourth year holds! Thank you to everyone for their support over the past three years.
We are pleased to announce we are fully supporting Family Mediation Week running from 11th to 15th January – if you don’t know what mediation is then have a look through our website or give us a call 01785 7474322. If you do know what mediation is and how it can help separating families or families in conflict then please help us to shout from the rooftops about how effective it is. The government fully support family mediation and want people to use it, that is why they have continued to provide legal aid (free mediation) to all people who qualify. Please help your local family mediation service to spread the word.
We are so sad to report that Robin-Ap-Cynan a local mediator who owned Lupus & SALM mediation in Wolverhampton, Shropshire and Birmingham has sadly passed away. We are helping all we can with the mediation clients both new and old that were with Lupus and are taking over all the referrals. Please call 01785 747322 if you were with Lupus and have any queries.
