On 22nd April 2014 the law changed making mediation compulsory. Mediation is an opportunity for you to resolve your issues in an amicable environment away from Court. It is now necessary for you to attend a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) before applying to Court. Certainly in Staffordshire and the surrounding areas the Courts will encourage everyone to consider mediation before their matter is heard at Court. If you are the respondent in a Court application and have not attended a MIAM, the Judge may adjourn your case to see if mediation is suitable. Look at the Government News on Mediation for more information. Legal Aid is still available for mediation.
