Welcome to Family Mediation Centre

We offer mediation and MIAMS to anyone in the UK and abroad, appointments can be held remotely on Zoom or face to face at our office. Call for a free consultation, we can explain the process, assess you for legal aid and see if you qualify for the £500 Government Mediation Voucher available to all clients.

Legal Aid & Mediation Vouchers (do you qualify? Call for a free telephone consultation on 01785 747322)

Legal aid is available, which means mediation will be free of charge.  If you claim Universal Credit you will qualify for legal aid as long as you don’t have savings over £8,000 or own a really expensive property! If you are not on Universal Credit you may still qualify, we just need to do a simple calculation over the telephone to work this out.

Mediation Vouchers – The Government has invested money to support all families who need to discuss child matters. No matter how much you earn, you will be entitled to a £500 voucher.

Mediation – A Better Way Forward

Mediation offers a better way of resolving difficult disputes. Sitting down together virtually or in person either on screen or in separate spaces (shuttled mediation) with a mediator.  The process is held over not usually more than three sessions lasting no longer than 1.5 hours.   There is a high chance of resolving your issues quickly and with less harm to the future of your relationship as parents.

We can give you information about separation and the divorce process, and can make suggestions to you as to what might be a way forward both in relation to children and financial separation.  Mediators do not give independent legal advice but they can give information and many of our mediators are qualified solicitors which is helpful when resolving financial matters.

Because Courts recognise that mediation is a more positive option, anyone applying to Court is now asked if they have first considered mediation and attended a compulsory MIAM which is your first, one to one appointment with us.

Mediation itself always remains voluntary

You can stop mediation at any point. You make the decisions about yours and your children’s lives rather than a Judge making the decisions for you.

Once you have reached a decision you can then apply to the Court to turn those important decisions into a legally binding agreement by completing a  Child Arrangements Order or a Financial Order, .  In a nutshell, rather than you taking the dispute to Court and asking the Judge to decide, you are taking your agreement to court and asking them to rubber stamp it.

Our aim is to:

  • Resolve issues in as timely, inexpensive and child-centred way.
  • Offer you Legal Aid and Mediation Vouchers if you qualify so it might be free
  • Meet with children – we offer Child inclusive mediation sometimes recommended by the Court.
  • Mediate in difficult matters relating to children, finance and property or both
  • Refer out where legal advice is necessary: we have strong links with local solicitors see who we work with below
  • Keep solicitors informed about the progress of mediation, and provide clear summaries of our work together. We welcome feedback from solicitors and clients
  • Build on our tried, tested and trustworthy experience to provide something genuinely new and better for families
  • Use our expertise and experience to deal with the most entrenched and complex cases
  • We will try and help in any situation: with our flexible and very creative approach, if we can’t help we will certainly know an organisation that will

Working Remotely – Zoom

We undertake your assessment meeting (MIAM) and mediation sessions remotely through Zoom video conferencing.   It is a simple free app that you download to your phone, laptop or tablet.  Since Covid, clients have found working remotely through Zoom beneficial because of the following:

  • You don’t have to travel, saving time and money on fuel.
  • If you don’t want to see your ex partner then you don’t have to, you don’t even have to be on the same screen, so mediation can still go ahead even if there is a non molestation order or restraining orders in place.
  • You can feel 100% safe and relaxed in the comfort of your own home.

We do still offer a limited amount of face to face appointments at our office in Stafford, these usually take place on a Monday and there may be a short wait.

If you haven’t used Zoom before, please don’t be put off, we can organise a free pre-test and explain exactly what to do.

Our mediators are available remotely through Zoom and at our office to provide Family Mediation.
